How do I talk to an actual person at USPS? ›

Self-service options are available 24/7 by calling 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777). Customer Service representatives are also available to take your calls: Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time (Alaska and Hawaii are 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. ET)

For its 1-800-ASK-USPS customer care line, the Postal Service employs an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system to answer calls, automatically handling routine issues such as package tracking, finding post office locations and hours, and submitting hold mail requests.

If there is no response, or if the customer requests you to do so, dismount to deliver to any business or residence that is on the line of travel or within one-half mile of the route and has a passable road leading to it. Special service mail must be delivered to the addressee or an authorized agent.

File a complaint about mail services

Select the reason for your complaint, including delivery issues and complaints about USPS employees or facilities. Call 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777) or TTY: 711.

If you have a paper bill or a 10-digit account number, call the phone number on your invoice. If you don't have an invoice, call 1-800-811-1648 for domestic billing support or 1-866-493-7140 for import billing support.

Submit a Missing Mail Search Request

If after 7 business days from when you submitted your online help request form your mail or package hasn't arrived, submit a Missing Mail search request with the following information: Sender mailing address. Recipient mailing address. Size and type of container or envelope you used.

If the proper amount of time has passed and the item has not arrived, you may submit a search request for your lost mailpiece on the Missing Mail application and/or file a claim.

If your tracking hasn't updated in a few days, it might be due to an increase in volume — as is common during the holidays — or simply slower processing times due to understaffing. Both of these issues can cause mail to move through the system slowly, and this can lead to a lag in your mail's tracking information.

A city letter carrier who actually works more than 7 hours but less than 8 hours of a regular scheduled day and who is officially excused from the completion of the 8-hour tour is credited with 8 hours of work time for pay purposes. This is known as the 7:01 rule (see 443.212). See 444.

If you are primarily shipping products locally across short distances, opting for Priority Mail services rather than Fixed Rate might make sense. If your shipments generally cover a long distance or you are shipping all across the US, Flat Rate envelopes and boxes will often work out to be cheaper.
