The 2024-2025 Ohio State anesthesiology residency interview season will be conducted via virtual format starting in October 2024 and running through January 2025. The virtual interview day consists of the following: an informative presentation from the residency program director; four 15-minute meetings with the residency program director, members of our diverse faculty pool, and a current chief resident; an informal meet and greet with current residents over the lunch hour. There will also be a virtual opportunity to get to know our current residents in a relaxed setting the evening prior to the interview day.

  • Welcome to the Ohio State Anesthesiology Residency Program! As the Program Director, I am thrilled to introduce you to our dynamic and comprehensive training program. Our website is designed to provide you with detailed information about the exceptional education, diverse clinical experiences, and supportive community you will find here. At Ohio State, we are committed to fostering a nurturing environment where residents can thrive both professionally and personally. Explore our site to learn more!

My favorite part of our program is the way our residents get along and support one another. This is intentional. We seek residents to join our program who are emotionally intelligent team-players that want to help their classmates succeed just as much as they themselves want to succeed. Other characteristics of candidates who do exceptionally well in our program are those who are eager to take advantage of the plethora of experiences we provide both inside and outside of the operating room.

We look forward to helping you take the next step in your medical career. OH!

  • Note from the chief residents

    • Completion and submission of the MyERAS® application form
    • Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE or “Dean's letter”)
    • An official copy of your medical school transcript
    • USMLE or COMLEX test scores (we have not set a minimum score, and we do not require osteopathic graduates to take the USMLE)
      • Step 2 (USMLE or COMLEX) is required for an interview invitation.
    • A personal statement
    • Three additional letters of recommendation from physicians who are acquainted with your work or capabilities, at least one of these should be from a physician anesthesiologist
    • We encourage all candidates interested in our program to familiarize themselves with the new Signaling process. A statement from the ACCPD can be found here, and we encourage all candidates interested in our program to signal their interest, including OSU and visiting students. We will give priority to interview candidates who signal interest in our program (gold and silver) and/or geographic region.
    • Participation in the virtual interview day
    • The Ohio State Anesthesiology Residency Program will be utilizingthe Central Application this recruitment season as a supplement to ERAS. The CentralApp was created to improve equity in the residency selection process by eliminating financial barriers and improving holistic review.
    • You may submit the CentralApp concurrently with your ERAS application at the website listed above. You will be instructed to create a secure account and upload your application documents. If you do not submit CentralApp concurrently with ERAS, you will be prompted to do so after ERAS opens.
    • The Match will remain with National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Please direct any questions about the application to HELP@accessgme.com.
  • In addition to the requirements listed above, candidates seeking a CA1 position this year must have the following:

    • Step 3 score (USMLE or COMLEX)
    • Letter of recommendation from current program director, this may count as one of your three letters of recommendation
    • Application must indicate why the candidate is applying for an R-spot, how they arrived at their current position, and what specifically they are seeking in anesthesiology residency training. This may be addressed in any part of the application including but not limited to the personal statement.
    • Given the unique nature of the R-spot, we particularly seek candidates who have a documented history of independence, self-motivation, drive, grit/resilience, task completion, and emotional intelligence.
    • PLEASE NOTE: R spots have a firm start date of July 1.
  • Foreign medical graduates are welcome to apply through ERAS following the requirements listed above. J-1 is the only visa accepted into this program.

    • We enthusiastically welcome fourth year medical students to join us for a visiting rotation.
    • Applications for this four week experience must be submitted through VSAS.
    • Scholarships are available through OSUCOM for visiting students with backgrounds that are historically underrepresented in medicine. More information is available here: https://medicine.osu.edu/diversity/initiatives/underrepresented-minority.
    • Completing a rotation with us does not replace the need to use a signal; please signal us if so desired
    • For more details, email our rotation director: Andrea.Fuller@osumc.edu or email our medical student coordinator: Katherine.Carr@osumc.edu.
